Cinematic influences I also had multiple cinematic influences which inspired me to use certain visual techniques to help me to create deeper meaning within my film. The Gunfighter The cinematographer uses a shallow depth of field to highlight the isolation of the character and to show how he is alone/ unwelcome in the environment. I would like to implement this technique into my own short film to highlight similar meaning. As the main character does not know where he is, using a shallow depth of field would highlight the isolation. A shallow depth of field makes the subject stand out against the background, which can be used to highlight the importance of a character or an object. Do geese see god- film synopsis Taylor is an ordinary adult on the way home from work. Upon reaching his house to park his car, he notices a tent obstructing his path. Filled with curiosity he gets in the tent and zips it up so that no one sees him. When he re-opens the tent to get out, a large gust of wind hits his face and he realises he is now in a different location. After getting out of the tent he discovers a note pinned to a tree. The note informs him that the tent is the only way back to where he started. After having multiple experiences of the tent changing location, Taylor finds his own car keys hanging off a branch in some woods. Confused and shocked, as he has never been there before, he walks forward to pick them up but hears footsteps behind him, it turns out the person behind him is actually himself, getting in the tent. Because Taylor has altered with the environment and done things in an irregular way, the paradox has been broken and this is why he sees himself. Tay...

Film structure clarification Scenes in film order Scene 1 - he gets into the tent, and gets out in another place, he sees a note on a tree, turns to get back in the tent and its no longer there Scene 2 - He gets back in his car after realising he is safe and has made it home, finds one last note stuck to his steering wheel, a quick cut hides what the note says . Scene 3-   He sees the tent in the distance and begins to walk over to it, he gets in the tent as he normally would. scene 4- he is back where he started, sees birds flying around and falls backwards into the tent. scene 5-   he gets out the tent and he is in the middle of some woodland, with a recently put out fire by him, he turns around and sees someone get in the tent but they disappear when he looks inside. final scene- he gets out the tent, with a mirrored version of himself getting out of another tent, this  version is the person who just fell back and saw all the birds. the first character lo...

Shoot 3 shots and editing drone shot This drone shot was extremely hard to perform as i had to fly it backwards under a fallen tree which although wasn't very high, the shape of it as well as the hanging branches made it difficult to fly through and get the shot.  Colour grading- i had to colour grade this shot slightly different compared to the other shots, because the drone isn't as good in low light compared to a camera. I had to de-noise the image using the median tool, and i had to increase the shadows much more than i usually would. Shot of keys + meaning explained The meaning of the keys and why they are shown so obviously is because the object acts as a Macguffin, the character always checks to have the keys, and if he doesn't then he knows something is wrong. I added a humming sound effect when he picks up the keys to highlight the importance of the object, picking up the keys in turn broke the paradox, which is why he sees himself get in the tent...

Planning for next shoot Need aerial drone shots of the car, i want to have the music fade from silence as the drone gets closer to the car, and for the drone to stop as it gets as close as it can to the back of the car. Because i cannot have myself in the shot, i will not be close enough to the drone in order to see how close it gets to the back of the car. To solve this i am going too start the drone off close to the car, and get the actor to reverse the car and then play it backwards so it looks like the drone is getting closer to the car as the car is driving forward. As the drone gets closer to the car, the music will start to sound like it would if it were playing inside the car and the audience were listening from outside. Once the drone gets as close to the car as it can, i will cut to a shot inside the car, where the music will be playing as part of the soundtrack, full volume. Film opening https://youtu.be/rAYNhlvxehY Editing techniques Mask transition Track the object which you want to mask frame by frame using the free draw bezier, after each frame press the arrow positioned in the effect controls to advance the clip forward by one frame, continue this process until the whole clip has been masked away and the next clip is underneath. Some options can be altered after the edit is complete, increasing the feather makes the line seem smoother and more natural. I got the inspiration for this transition from Pan's labyrinth. After working out how to apply the transition to basic objects, i applied it to more complex ones such as a shoe, i may also look to do it inside a tent, so when the tent opens, the next shot follows from outside. Colour grading For the colour grade, i usually (depending on the shot) increase the warmth of the image as i find this much more appealing than a cooler look.
